Lady Rangers Continue to Roll, Defeat Lamoille 2-0

ORLEANS-Haley Kennedy popped in a goal just two and a half minutes into the first half, and that is all the Lady Rangers would need, as they went on to defeat Lamoille 2-0 on Saturday morning.
"I'm happy to get a win against a Division II team," said LR coach Brad Urie. "(Lamoille) played two tough games before this one, and I knew they were ready to win, thankfully it wasn't against us."

Peoples Holds off Late-Charging Falcons

September 13, 2013

Newport-After getting behind 2-0 in the first, the North Country girls soccer team battled back to make it close in the second half before eventually falling 3-2.
Mykayla Tanguay and Chelsea Bianchi had the two goals for the Falcons on Friday afternoon.
Jenna Moss had several clutch saves, and finished the day with a total of 7.
The girls will be back in action on September, 17th when they travel to Lyndon for a 4:30 contest with the Vikings.

Bulldogs Hand Falcons Third Straight Loss

NEWPORT-It just was not North Country's night as the visiting Burr and Burton Bulldogs came into town and dropped 47 points on the Falcons, while holding the home team scoreless, winning the game 47-0.
Said Assistant coach Lonnie Wade, "We just did not take care of the ball."
Eric Cerra had 3 touchdowns, including an 80 yard run in the first half, to lead the Bulldogs on Friday night.
Burr and Burton moves to 2-1, while the Falcons drop to 0-3.
Next up for North Country is a trip to Bellows Falls on September 21st. Game time is 1:00.

STORMS LEAVE NEK IN THE DARK

September 12, 2013

NORTHEAST KINGDOM – A storm with high winds and heavy rains knocked out 10,000 Vermont Electric Co-op (VEC) members Wednesday and about 27,000 Green Mountain Power customers.
The VEC outage primarily affected members in the Northeast Kingdom, said Amanda Zay, the power company's communication specialist.

CITY APPROVES MAPLEFIELDS

September 12, 2013

NEWPORT CITY – Downtown Newport will soon have a brand new Maplefields Store, restaurant, and gas station on the corner of Main Street and Third Street.  Wednesday evening, after a public hearing with deliberative session, the Newport City Development Review Board issued the necessary permits, with conditions.

Local Games Postponed Due to Nasty Weather

September 12, 2013

ORLEANS-Wednesday’s girls soccer game between Lake Region and Hazen was postponed due to the storm that eventually hit the area.
With just about 11 minutes of soccer in the books and the score standing at 0-0, a rumbling of thunder caused play to be halted and for players to move into the school.
After the initial thunder, lightning started to strike, and after to close to an hour into the delay, the game was called. No make-up date has been announced yet.
The soccer match between the Craftsbury and Concord girls was also postponed.

MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Department of Health is looking for retired medical professionals and others to volunteer their time to be part of a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The volunteers will work at mass surge (massive casualty events) medical care (MSMC) facilities if the hospital has more patients it can handle during a crises or disaster situation.

STORMS SLAM NEK

We all knew it was coming. The TV and radio had warned folks to "batten down the hatches," and yet the downpour seemed to catch many by surprise as they hurried into shelter. High winds, pounding rain, thunder and lightning, and even a report of a small tornado kept us inside and huddled around lanterns and candles. Green Mountain Power reported at least 27,000 people without power last night, and 8,000 still without power Thursday morning.
