Abdelnour–– Cy, 64, of Holland, Vermont, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2011 after a long illness. A private, family funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Cy Abdelnour, 64, of Holland, Vermont, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2011 after a long illness. Cy was born on December 8, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Moses and Ollie (Abraham) Abdelnour. His father predeceased him.
Cy attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College (Miami, Oklahoma), where he played football, and graduated from the University of Miami (FL). He deeply enjoyed sharing his love of football with youth, and was head coach of the North Country Junior Falcons for many years.

NEWPORT - Judge Martin Maley handed down a Preliminary Injunction Tuesday in favor of Green Mountain Power (GMP) in its case against Don and Shirley Nelson.
Protesters who occupy any area within 1,000 feet of the blasting area on Lowell Mountain within two hours of a scheduled blast will now be in criminal contempt, according to the order. The order authorizes the Orleans County Sherriff’s Department and The Vermont State Police to "arrest and remove any individuals within the 1,000 foot boundary…”
DERBY - VELCO's lawyers are arguing that a request by the Derby Select Board for a public hearing before the Public Service Board (PSB) is essentially invalid because, although the request was made during a meeting of the Derby board, the issue of the VELCO permit was not officially on the agenda and therefore could not be acted upon under the state's Open Meeting Law.

It was an exciting and exhausting day at the races last Saturday for the North Country Cross Country team. Signs of snow were found out on the course with another 7” predicted to arrive later in the afternoon and temperatures never climbed out of the mid-40s. The footing was much better than earlier in the month on this course, but after 8 races went through the course, it was pretty churned up in the lower loop.
Croudis–– Richard F., 94, of Auburn died October 29. Committal Services will be held Saturday, November 5, at 1 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth, ME. Memorial Services will be held at the United Church of Newport, Vermont on November 20 at 1 p.m. Donations in Richard's name may be made to the Scholarship Fund in his name at the Newport Rotary, P.O.
