NEWPORT–Retiring Falcon Head Coach Bob Davis will take six of his players with him as he heads down to Middlebury this weekend for his final coaching assignment, guiding the Northern squad in the Annual North/South Game.
This will be Davis’ third time coaching at the game (2001, 2005, 2001), the second as a head coach.
“It is a totally different thing. The idea is to celebrate football, sportsmanship and to showcase these kids for the colleges to look at,” said the coach earlier this month.

NEWPORT - The Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild is holding its 15th annual event all this week and weekend at the Shelburne Museum, and a Newport woman is a featured guest speaker and demonstrator.
The event, Hooked in the Mountains XV, is a rug and fiber art show displaying more than 400 works.
NEWPORT CITY – The North Country Union High School Board of Directors breezed through November’s meeting, held Tuesday evening, in under one hour.
NEWPORT - The Newport Daily Express held it's "Just Say No to Drugs" annual coloring contest. The winners came to the newspaper to pick up their prizes and show off their wonderful art work.

DERBY - The Derby Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) held a hearing Monday evening on an appeal dealing with the building that is slated to house an adult novelty store. The building, 4267 US RT 5, is located in a commercial zone next to Interstate 91 and houses Roaster's Café.
Derby Village Trustee Dr. Richard O’Hara appealed Derby’s Zoning Administrator Bob Kelley’s decision to grant a change of use permit for a portion of the building.
ORLEANS – Students at Lake Region Union High School spent Monday and Tuesday learning the steps to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Theresa Osborn, from Redmond, WA, who taught the dance to the students, said the dance is performed simultaneously around the world just before Halloween. Lake Region students who know the dance will have the opportunity to participate in future Thriller performances.
NEWPORT CITY – A welfare check requested by a concerned neighbor resulted in the arrest of a North Troy man charged with possession of marijuana. Jacob Bordeau, 29, entered a plea of not guilty to a felony charge of possession of marijuana in Orleans District Court Tuesday.
When State Trooper Debra Munson and Sgt. Larry Smith arrived at the Bordeau home, they saw Bordeau lying in bed with his children next to him. Bordeau eventually woke up and made his way to the door.

Traverse City, Michigan - Jerry Hazen Page, 67, of Traverse City died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at his home, with his loving wife by his side. Jerry was born on Saturday, March 25, 1944 to the late Walter and Evelyn (Kennison) Page in Newport, VT.
