NEWPORTâ€“The sight after the game of an exhausted Paul Samaan laying on the ground, inhaler in hand, summed up the effort that the UCA boys gave in their tough-luck 1-0 loss to West Rutland Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the Division IV soccer play-offs.
"The boys gave everything they had today, but you still hate to lose a game like this 1-0," said coach Alyssa DeLaBruere.
UCA matched their opponents step for step, chance for chance, but in the end a squibbler that got past Chris DeLaBruere decided the contest.
ISLAND POND, VT - Itâ€™s that time of year again. Moose madness has struck and hunters lucky enough to have won the lottery are out to bag the biggest beast they can.
The largest moose harvested so far this year weighed in at 834 pounds. The largest ever taken was slightly over 1,000 pounds. The largest cow taken so far was 619 pounds.
Pete Emerson of the Department of Fish & Wildlife said the state has finally gotten the moose population where it should be. The numbers are down as a result, with fewer permits issued at 385.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ A case between the City of Newport and Village of Derby Center is set to go to trial Monday, Nov. 26, over a water contract.
In 1997, Derby Center agreed to supply water to the City Industrial Park in Newport.
â€śThings were going along pretty well,â€ť said attorney Christopher Smart, who represents the Village of Derby. â€śUnder the agreement, our understanding was we had the right to change our rate schedule."
Historically, users on the water system paid a minimum charge.

Last Wednesday, the Community Form Coalition, with the assistance of entertainers Wayne Warner and Emily Nyman, presented â€śIt Canâ€™t Happen To Meâ€ť at North Country Union High School auditorium. The goal of the program was to create awareness of the impact that substance use and abuse has on the entire community.

Vivian E. Whipple, 86, long-time resident of Newport Center, joined the love of her life for eternity when she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at North Country Hospital in Newport on October 18, 2012. She was born on May 25, 1926, in Westfield, the daughter of Ralph Willis and Elsie Besaw.
