Renaultâ€“â€“ Edmond R., 85, of Glover, VT, passed away on March 12, 2013 in Newport, VT.

BURLINGTON â€“ It was a homecoming of sorts for Boston College Eagle sophomore Johnny Gaudreau and he didnâ€™t disappoint. Gaudreau had a goal Friday in the Eagleâ€™s 4-4 draw with the University of Vermont and then followed that up with two goals and four assists as BC nailed the Catamounts 7-2 Saturday night.
While Johnny hails from Carneyâ€™s Point, New Jersey, his roots are well established in northern Vermont. Over 30 relatives from the Beebe and Orleans County area showed up to watch their son, grandson, cousin and so on, and the 19-year-old delivered.
COVENTRY â€“ The Newport State Airport Advisory Committee met with environmental engineers and state agency officials for an update of the project schedule and how environmental issues will impact the proposed expansion. Project manager Jed Merrow first provided a master plan update that includes a mix of adding to existing infrastructure as well as taking down a building currently used for snow removal equipment.

MONTPELIER â€“ Vermont law enforcement officers are on the heels of the legislature, waving red flags, saying they fear decriminalization of marijuana could be more than a pipe dream.
Bill S.48 proposes to change the penalty for possessing an ounce or less of marijuana from a crime to a civil offense. A person under 21 caught with marijuana would face the same penalties as possession of alcohol.
An ounce of marijuana would be about half a sandwich bag.
Pellerinâ€“â€“ Leonard passed away peacefully at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab on March 11, 2013 at the age of 86.

DERBY â€“ Jay is facing problems with people speeding through the town center. Vermont Route 242 West, towards Jay Peak Resort, has a posted speed limit of 35 mph into town. However, many drivers are not slowing down and are raising concerns of public safety.
The select board formed a committee tasked with dealing with the problem of speeders and added an appropriation for vote on Town Meeting day to contract with the Orleans County Sheriffâ€™s Department for more patrolling on Route 242. The residents said no by voice vote.
DERBY â€“ Warmer temperatures, rain showers and slick roads are a sign mud season has begun. Derby Road Department employee Terry Tice said while the frost has started to come out, the roads are holding up well so far. Of greater concern this week have been culverts overflowing on several roads in town.
LOWELL â€“ Some voters, unhappy that the appropriation for the Orleans County Sheriff's Department failed at Lowell's Town Meeting, are circulating a petition for reconsideration.
Town moderator and fire chief Alden Warner said the paper ballot failed by three votes, 59-56. Town officials recounted the votes to make sure they didn't make a mistake, he said.

BURLINGTON â€“ With the first girls hockey state tittle in both program's history on the line, the North Country Falcons and the Harwood Highlanders stood at their respective goal lines, ready to do battle for Division Two's ultimate prize.
A little over two hours later it was over.
A game filled with great saves, excellent scoring chances, hard hits and cagey coaching ended with Hayley Martini defeating Mikaella Doran 3:40 into overtime to give Harwood a 1-0 win and the program's first state title.
DERBY â€“ A Springfield, VT, truck driver walked away from a crash on Interstate 91 Monday night after his rig slid into the median and collided with some trees.
A Peterbuilt truck cab and trailer twisted and flipped over, leaving gullies dug into the dirt and its large wheels in the air. The cab was severely buckled on impact and both sections were declared totaled.
