Jane Chouinard Davis, 65, died at her home in Albany Sunday, July 29, 2012, in the loving care of her family, following a valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Newport, February 17, 1947, the youngest daughter of Gerard and Aldea (Gendron) Chouinard.Â
She was a 1965 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Newport and a 1969 graduate from Trinity College in Burlington receiving a Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Elementary Education.Â On December 21, 1968, she married Terrrence â€śTerryâ€ť Davis.Â Â
DERBY LINE â€“ Government officials are considering taking more action to stop people from entering the United States and failing to report at the Derby Line, VT, Port of Entry.
Derby Line officials met with U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and General Services Administration (GSA) representatives near the U.S./Canadian border Friday and conducted a site visit â€“ of sorts.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ Cristopher Smith, the 27-year-old man who pulled a knife on a local news reporter, entered a guilty plea Friday to a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of engaging in a prohibited act. The state dismissed a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
Smith, who appeared in court in chains and shackles, will have to wait a bit longer to hear his fate. Until then, he is lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield.
BROWNINGTON, VT â€“ Cody Cole, 15, of Irasburg, died Saturday as the result of an accidental shooting with a muzzle loader.
Vermont State Troopers received a 911 call around 7 PM from a residence in Brownington that the teenager had been shot. Police responded to the scene with Orleans Ambulance. Cole was taken to North Country Hospital where he later died.
No official cause of death will be determined until an autopsy can be completed.

DERBY â€“ More serious problems have come to light with the ancient water system in the Village of Derby Line. Not only is the water dirty with rust and other residue, but low water pressure is hampering firefighters when trying to put out fires.
The home of Debbie Perry caught fire in the early morning hours Saturday. Eighteen Derby Line firefighters responded to the seen with five trucks after receiving a call at 3:20 a.m., Derby Line Fire Chief Craig Ellam said Sunday.
COVENTRY â€“ The thrills at the Newport State Airport this weekend were unbelievable as Lakeview Aviation held its fourth annual air show. The show included stunt flying, airplane displays, airplane rides, a Mustang display and a bounce house for kids. Hundreds of people showed up Saturday and Sunday to enjoy the daring displays.
â€śEverybody has a thing for planes,â€ť said Dan Gauvin, owner of Lakeview Aviation. Part of the purpose for the show is to grow interest in aviation. â€śThis is a state airport. People think itâ€™s for the rich but itâ€™s not; itâ€™s the taxpayerâ€™s airport.â€ť
LOWELL - Green Mountain Power has announced that the first turbine at the Kingdom Community Wind Project in Lowell has been erected.
"We've made tremendous progress on the project the last couple of months and are eagerly anticipating the project's commissioning," said Mary Powell, President and CEO of Green Mountain Power. "The mild winter allowed us to ramp construction back up in early April and we've been steadily moving forward since then. Today marks an important milestone in our effort to develop this clean, renewable energy for Vermont."
