The Chuck Berry Concert That Almost Fizzled — Part 3

September 27, 2012

By Jay Craven
Editor’s note: Filmmaker and arts impresario Jay Craven has been telling his story of the day and night he spent trying to get Chuck Berry to honor his contract and perform in the Northeast Kingdom. He continues his story this week, where he left off — getting Chuck Berry to finally agree to get in his car and drive to the St. Louis airport. But time was very tight and Jay has to promise he’d come up with an additional $2500 to motivate Berry to make the trip to Lyndonville.

Time was wasting and Chuck Berry was still negotiating—even after I agreed to his terms.

Rangers Hold Off Surging Wildcats, Win 2-1

September 27, 2012

ORLEANS–Shaquille Urie scored arguably the prettiest goal of the season for Lake Region, heading the ball past Hazen's Murphy Simmons seven minutes into the second half to secure the Rangers' 2-1 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon.
Lake Region got off to the hot start, and if it wasn't for Simmons heroics in goal, the score would have been much more lopsided.
His first big save came against eventual goal scorer Urie.
Jeremy Dean had the ball deep in Hazen territory when he lofted a cross into the middle of the box.

Falcons Earn First Win of the Season, Shut-out BFA 1-0

September 27, 2012

ST. ALBANS–Ruffie Palin's header in the 31st minute provided the only scoring Wednesday night, as North Country earned its’ first victory of the season with a 1-0 decision over the Bobwhites.
BFA (1-4-1) gave the Homecoming crowd plenty to cheer for in the opening minutes with a series of great chances, and had a handful of shots at a wide-open net late. Falcon goalkeeper Logan Fortier made a few great stops, but most of St. Albans' chances flew wide of one post or the other.

It's Hard to be Green

September 26, 2012

NORTH TROY – A local farmer is able to use cow manure and other waste products to generate electricity and keep the family farm viable, but the process was not easy. Multiple regulations and various agencies were involved, and one decided to levy a fine because it was not notified of a change.
State and federal financial help, now waning, were also essential in creating the project.
