Orleans Superior Court: Christian Cornelius Found Competent

September 23, 2014

After undergoing a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation, Christian Cornelius, 32, of Newport was found competent. Cornelius remains in jail at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport because he has been unable to post bail.

Derby Development: Dunkin Donuts Receives Local Permit Again

DERBY — The Planning Commission here unanimously granted site plan approval Monday for the proposed development of a Dunkin Donuts shop on the Derby Road.
The project remains in the Act 250 review process.

Rangers Score Four Goals in Each Half to Top Indians 8-0

ORLEANS–The Lake Region boys soccer team was in action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting the Danville Indians.
After a slow start the Ranger offense started to click and the team went on to score four goals in each half to come away with the 8-0 victory.
"The score is what is," said LR coach Tom Evans. "Danville is a young team and I thought they had some players that had some nice feet and did well with the ball. They did some good stuff, but they were just out-manned today. Hats off to them and we'll move on to Fairfax."

Newport City Residents Concerned About Railroad Bridge Safety

NEWPORT CITY – Some residents here are concerned that the railroad bridge over Landing Street is deteriorating and unsafe.
Jim Sheltra, who lives near the bridge, first noticed problems that include holes in supporting pillars a year ago.
