North Country Avenges Play-off Loss, Beat Middlebury 5-4

JAY–Down 2-1 at the end of the first period, the North Country girls, on the strength of some new line-up combinations, rallied to pick up the 5-4 win over Middlebury on Saturday night.
“I think offensively it gave us a little spark. We now have two lines that are working really well, it is not so much one line putting the puck in the net, we can spread it out,” said Paul of his new units play on Saturday.

Rangers Finish Off BFA 46- 42

ORLEANS- The Lake Region Ranger boys have been in many close games this season. That experience paid off Friday night as LRU closed out visiting BFA, snapping an eight game losing streak.
Lake Region dominated the offensive glass in the fourth quarter with the game on the line. Junior forward Drew Gallup scored on three offensive put backs to keep the Bullets at bay.

Rangers Win OT Thriller Against Spartans

In their second game in three days, it took 4 minutes of extra time and her first points of the game, but in the end Kylie Atwood’s 2 free throws with 45 seconds to go in overtime were enough to give her Lake Region Lady Rangers a thrilling 49-45 win over the Winooski Spartans Saturday afternoon.

Green Knights March Over Falcons 46-21

NEWPORT–IT was a tough pill to swallow for the North Country girls basketball team Friday night as a tall, athletic, and quick group of Rice players over-powered the Falcons en-route to the 46-21 win.
"Their pressure clearly affect us," said coach Christiane Brown, "We just need to do a better job of how we react to any kind of pressure, because that is how they got their points tonight."
Rice's big bodies held the Falcons to just three points in the opening quarter, while they put up a twelve spot on the board.

Rangers Upend Richford for the 52-32 Win

ORLEANS–In what started out as a tight contest ended in a twenty point victory for the Lady Rangers on Thursday as they ended their two game skid, defeating the Richford Rockets 52-32.
“I think this was an important win for us,” said coach Matt Tinker, “This will be good for the girls as we needed to get another win under our belt.”
The first quarter was tightly played eight minutes by both teams. Cailyn Gallup started the scoring with with a mid-range jumper to get Lake Region on the board first, and it would be back and fourth from there.

Residents Pound Hospital Board For Firing Lockridge

NEWPORT - Nearly 300 people turned out for a meeting Wednesday evening to discuss concerns relating to the termination of oncologist Dr. Leslie Lockridge from North Country Hospital. The meeting was held at the Newport Municipal Building, where the hospital's CEO, Claudio Fort, and members of the board of directors took center stage at the front of the room.
Nearly everyone there expressed strong support for Lockridge and outrage that he is losing his job.

Franklin County Foes Take Two From Hockey Falcons

ST. ALBANS–The North Country boys hockey team came close, but in the end, the BFA Bobwhites were able to erase a four goal deficit, and electrify the Collins-Perley Sports Complex in overtime as Mike Schreiner picked up the winner to give St.Albans the 5-4 victory.
The Falcons got all their scoring in the first two periods as Ryan Paul had two and Josh Bernier and Ross DeLaBruere had one to stake the boys in maroon to 4-1 lead.
The Bobwhites battled back to send the game into overtime where the captain put home his second of the night to pick up the win.
