FAIRFAX-Softball wins in Fairfax have been few and far between over the last few years for Lake Regionâ€™s softball team, and that proved to be the case again as the home team broke open a close 7-5 game with five runs in the sixth in a 12-5 win.
FAIRFAXâ€“ Lake Region ran into a buzz saw in the form of BFA ace Robbie Rinaldo, as he set down the Rangers on a three hitter, striking out seven in six innings of work.
LRâ€™s Tyler Jacobs pitched well, but was touched for a two run homer by Brett Hakey, which broke a 0-0 deadlock in the fourth. Hakey added a double, and would come on in relief, closing out the game for the Academy.
Kyle Perry had two hits for the Rangers as they move to 6-5, while BFA now stands at 10-3.
NEWPORTâ€“ The North Country Falcons had a rough go of it on Thursday falling to CVU 18-0.
Coach Bonvechio's boys got behind by ten in the first inning and would never recover after that.
The Falcons will try to put this one behind them as they get ready for MVU on Tuesday at home.
NEWPORTâ€“ The North Country softball team put to bed their eight game losing streak on Thursday against CVU. The Falcons needed extra innings to get the job done, but they persevered, getting the 4-3 win and a huge monkey off of their backs.
North Country would wait until late in the game to get their offense going. Down 1-0 with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth starting pitcher Kayla Desheneau drew a walk to tie the game.
Emi Pare then drove in the go ahead run as Katie Ste. Marie was able to beat the throw home on the fielder's choice.
Lake Region placed fifth at the North Country Invitational on Thursday. the team shot a 397, which was 65 shots behind first place Peoples Academy.
The North Country Falcons finished first overall at the North Country Invitational on Thursday. Their team score of 322 was two shots better than Spaulding and CVU, who tied for second at 324.
NEWPORTâ€“ The North Country girls tennis team lost their rematch to St. Johnsbury Academy on Tuesday 4-3.
Number two singles Deanna Brandstetter, number four singles Rhiannon Rosamillia, and the number two doubles team of Brian Treadwell and Rosie Wheeler all picked up wins against a very strong Hilltopper squad.
Number one singles Martha Petzoldt, number three singles Kelsey Oâ€™Donnell number five singles Alana Perry, and the number one doubles team of Mollie Oâ€™Keefe and Carlie Diette all took loses on the day.
NEWPORTâ€“ Milton came in to town on Tuesday and dealt the North Country softball team their eighth straight loss by the score of 7-3.
"Defensively we struggled, we made too many errors which led to runs," said Coach Leslie Dunn, "Offensively it was better, we were hitting the ball, but we were hitting it right at somebody."
Emily Pecue and Katie Ste. Marie each had a hit for the Falcons.
