St. Edward Gets Preschool Permit From Derby ZBA

St. Edward Parish received conditional use approval from the Derby Zoning Board of Adjustment Monday evening for an increase of up to 36 preschool children if the parish meets the conditions.

Velasquez Pleads Guilty To Canadian Charges, Gets Jail

Valentina Velasquez, who set off a two-country police chase last month, has pleaded guilty in Quebec court to failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, possession of stolen goods, and crossing the border illegally in an escapade she herself described in court as, “the stupidest thing I’ve done in my life.”

Harwood Gets Just Enough to Squeeze Past North Country

NEWPORT–The North Country Falcons were hoping for better results when they squared off against Division II Harwood on Monday.
The white and maroon would score the opening goal, but the Highlanders came back to tie the game before the break and eventually scored the game winner mid-way through the second to pick up the 2-1 victory.
"This is a game we should have won," said NCU coach Chantelle Bouchard. "We had chances galore to put the ball in the net, but we could not finish and that cost us. We will have to have a better effort if we want to compete against Rice and U-32 later this week."

St. Johnsbury Goes Big in Win Against North Country

NEWPORT–It was a rough Friday of football for the North Country Falcons, as they lost a one-sided contest to the St, Johnsbury Hilltoppers 59-18 under the lights at Veterans Field.
"We started out playing our game and I think we surprised them a little bit," said NCU coach Tim Simoneau. “We are coming across some pretty serious adversity this week with our injuries. I am not making excuses, but it is what it is."

LYNDON CENTER–The North Country Falcons continued their dominance over Caledonia Country-based teams on Saturday, as they came out ready to play from the get-go and picked up a win against the Vikings.
"We were strong from the opening seconds of the game right until the very end," said NCU coach Chantelle Bouchard. "We got the start that we have been looking for these past few games and dominated the whole way. It was a fantastic game to watch."
