NVDA Drafts Report, Recommendations On Wind Turbines

The Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA) has studied concerns over industrial wind farms and written a report of its findings with some recommendations. The NVDA notes studies are ongoing and further research should be conducted.

The committee also concluded that electricity generation is not the most effective way of reducing the state’s greenhouse gas emissions as the state’s largest contributors are transportation and heating.

Ice Bucket Challenge A Learning Opportunity

CHARLESTON — An ice bucket challenge by a Charleston Elementary School faculty member to the staff was quite well received. The challenge was accepted and on the first day of school the students may have enjoyed their best day of the school year. Twenty-five students had names drawn out of a hat and had the privilege of dumping a bucket of ice cold water on the participating staff.

Falcons Show Improvement in Loss to Milton

NEWPORT-The North Country Falcons kicked off their 2014 football season with a tough 14-6 loss to the Milton Yellowjackets on Friday night.
things got off to great start for the Falcons as a great kick return by Jared Hussey put the Falcons in prime scoring position.
A throw from QB Hunter Stanley to Connor Hogan on the next play sent the senior receiver into the endzone, giving the Falcons their first lead in a long time.
They would hold that lead into the second half before Milton went ahead on QB carry by Tyler Lamphere.

Derby Line Trustees Call Emergency Meeting Over CBP Action

The Derby Line trustees called an emergency meeting Wednesday over some issues that have come up in the village. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have put up an orange barricade at the top of the hill in the village where southbound traffic entering the U.S. accumulates.

E. Taylor Hatton School Board Transfers Building To Town

MORGAN — The Morgan school board formally transferred title of the Elizabeth Taylor Hatton Elementary School to the select board Wednesday. The decision came almost three years after the board with voter approval decided to send students on tuition to Derby.

Field Hockey Falcons Returning Bulk of 2013 Roster

NEWPORT–If you look at all of the fall sports teams at North Country, cross country excluded because it is also an individual sport, the group that has had the most success as of late is the Falcon field hockey squad.
They are coming off of back-to-back semi-final appearances, and with just four seniors leaving the team, coach Chantelle Bouchard is hoping to take this year's group on another strong run into the Division III post-season.
"I think because of their experience they know what they are coming up against," said Bouchard of her veteran-heavy squad.

Speed Will be Key for Fresh Faced Falcons

NEWPORT–The 2014 North Country girls soccer team will feature a completely different look from top to bottom, starting with the coaching staff.
Peter Alexander, who has coached along side Jose Batista fro many years has stepped down, and Tracy Muzerall, who has spent the last couple of season as a co-coach of the JV team will by be moving up and assisting Batista this season.
