Well-Known Orleans County Veterinarian Dr. Stan Churchill Dies

Dr. Stan Churchill, a popular and well-known and active member of the community, died Wednesday, June 11. “Doc” Churchill, a harness racing enthusiast, helped keep the sport alive at the Orleans County Fair. He was a former director of the fair association, a former Lake Region Union High School board chairman, and he had been a director for other community and business organizations. Charleston Planners Review Solar Proposal

CHARLESTON - The Charleston Planning Commission listened to a preliminary report by a subcommittee on solar power at Thursday evening’s meeting. The subcommittee offered possible siting for solar panels in town, and explained possible funding sources.

Jay Peak Expansion: Amphitheater Proposal For Outdoor Concerts

As part of its ongoing expansion and development Jay Peak Resort is now planning to build an outdoor amphitheater for larger concerts and other special events. Resort officials discussed plans with the Town of Jay Planning and Zoning Commission June 9.

One Bird Disrupts Power For More Than 5,000 Homes

June 12, 2014

From 7:23 to around 8:05 p.m. Wednesday night, roughly 5,500 customers of Vermont Electric Co-op (VEC), Barton Electric, and Orleans Electric were without power. The cause of the outage was not the incoming rain, nor vehicle related. All the trouble was caused by a single raven.

Ryan Paul Set to Play for Junior Bruins Organization

NEWPORT–With North Country's graduation having come and gone, many students will head off to college or to work when the next school year rolls around.
However, Ryan Paul will be taking a different path, much like his teammate Ross DeLaBruere, he will be heading off to play junior hockey.
Paul was signed this spring by the Boston Junior Bruins of the USPHL.
"It feels great," said Paul on the signing. "People have been telling me for years that I could, and to just be able to play at the next level and live the dream is amazing."
