Newport Dentist To Open Office In Dominican Republic

March 25, 2014

Newport dentist Dr. Paul Bosco and his wife Elizabeth spent Feb. 27 to March 4 in the Dominican Republic, an island in the Caribbean. Part of the trip was for pleasure and part was to evaluate the dental health of the children who live in the village he visited. Fresh back from his trip, Bosco is preparing to help open a dental office there.

Cruiser Crusher Criminal Case Continues

NEWPORT CITY - The case of Roger Pion, the man accused of crushing several Orleans County Sheriff Department cruisers in 2012, continues to plow through the court system.
Pion appeared in Orleans County District Court Tuesday for a status conference.

Legislative Breakfast: Single Payer Health Care Continues To Be A Hot Topic

NEWPORT CITY - Vermont’s single payer health care, known by some as Green Mountain Care, continues to raise some strong opposition locally.
Paul Decelles, a local investment planner, said during Monday’s legislative breakfast that in 2011 Vermont got on a path to universal single payer health care. The legislation promised a full report on the type of health care Vermonters would get, would not get, and how the state would pay for it in 2013, Decelles said.

Two Deny Burglarizing Homes At Memphremagog Views

NEWPORT CITY – A 21-year-old Newport man was held on bail while an 18-year-old was released on an unsecured bond after they pleaded not guilty in the Criminal Division of Orleans Superior Court to several charges allegedly related to multiple burglaries at Memphremagog Views.

LRUHS: Students Participate In Extra Curricular Activities

BARTON - The administration at Lake Region Union High School is placing a greater emphasis on involving students in extracurricular activities, and is tracking the results. These activities go beyond participation in organized sports, but include the fall musical, FFA, FBLA, a cooking club, and the Community Service Board. Trips to France, the Student Leadership Board, and Community Art Club are other offerings.

School Boards Have Lots Of Questions For Legislators

BARTON - An upcoming Legislature/educator summit to be held at Lake Region Union High School on March 31 has school board members ready to ask questions and offer opinions. The summit brings together the area legislative delegation and school board members from both Orleans Central and North Country supervisory unions to discuss pending legislation and ongoing governance and finance issues.

Morin, Bernier Heading to Nationals With U-16 Shamrocks

MANCHESTER, NH–The U-16 Vermont Shamrock team is heading to the USA Hockey Tier II National Tournament for third straight year, as they defeated the Connecticut Stars 4-0 to win the New England Regional Championships on Sunday afternoon.
Vermont's U-19 team also made it to the regional finals, but they fell 1-0 and had to settle for second place.
There is still an outside chance that the U-19's could make it to Nationals, but that would require another team that qualified to drop out.
This year's National Championships will be held in Buffalo, NY in early April.

Local Maple Producers Open Sugarhouse Doors

It was a sweet weekend in the state as hundreds of maple syrup producers opened their doors for the annual maple open house weekend.
Maple production so far has been sluggish, which prompted some of the producers to cancel their activities, but things were really cooking for those who continued on with their scheduled activities.
