NEWPORT CITY – Travis Parenteau, 29, of Newport, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of burglary, violation of conditions of release and driving with a suspended license.
Judge Robert Bent placed Parenteau essentially under 24/7 house arrest in the custody of his grandmother. He can only leave the house in her company or to attend counseling. Parenteau's charge of violating conditions of release stemmed from him allegedly failing to abide by a similar order.
JAY – Twelve-year-old Nicholas Prue had a very strong bond with his grandfather, John Young, who lost his battle to cancer Nov. 8, 2010. Prue will participate in Hope on the Slopes in New England, an event to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
BARTON - Paul Denton of Barton contacted the Newport Daily Express to report that his vehicle had also been vandalized recently.
The vehicle was parked in his driveway, on US RT 5, the night of Jan. 26. When he awoke in the morning, he found the back window smashed in and totally destroyed.
Denton reported the matter to the State Police.
Denton said his neighbor heard some noise in the night, but didn't see anything and couldn't tell what time it was.
NEWPORT, VT - Joshua Sabens, 25, of Blairsville, Penn., plead no contest Tuesday to a charge of felony possession of stolen property, amended down from an original charge of burglary.
The charge stems from the theft of over $10,000 worth of tools from a construction site on Farrar Road in Newport. The site was under the control of Piette Construction.
