DERBY – Two North Country Union Junior High School teachers brought the Sheffield First Wind Project to their classrooms. Technical education teacher Roger Chaput and science teacher Jessica Tetreault oversaw the two-month unit.
Chaput’s component entailed talking about the parts of a wind turbine. Tetreault’s taught students how much electricity turbines can produce and how a wind turbine generates electricity, and about parallel circuits and series circuits. Students also discussed the pros and cons of wind turbines.
NEWPORT CITY – The planning commission will discuss changing the bylaw for parts of the east side of the city.
Paul Dreher, Newport City Zoning Administrator, said some residential lots near Jackson Street are 10,000 square foot lots, but some are just under 20,000 square feet. As it is now, the owners of the larger lots can’t subdivide their property and build houses on them because the lots would be too small under the zoning laws.
“Technically speaking, I can’t actually give them a permit to put a subdivision lot,” said Dreher.Â
ORLEANS COUNTY - An aerial seeding pilot project is now over for the year, but farmers who participated had their fields seeded with a winter cover crop early by a helicopter.
