ISLAND POND, VT - Itâs that time of year again. Moose madness has struck and hunters lucky enough to have won the lottery are out to bag the biggest beast they can.
The largest moose harvested so far this year weighed in at 834 pounds. The largest ever taken was slightly over 1,000 pounds. The largest cow taken so far was 619 pounds.

NEWPORT CITY â A case between the City of Newport and Village of Derby Center is set to go to trial Monday, Nov. 26, over a water contract.
In 1997, Derby Center agreed to supply water to the City Industrial Park in Newport.
âThings were going along pretty well,â said attorney Christopher Smart, who represents the Village of Derby. âUnder the agreement, our understanding was we had the right to change our rate schedule."
Historically, users on the water system paid a minimum charge.
DERBY â Interim Derby Town Clerk and Treasurer Faye Morin is the only person to turn in a petition for the upcoming special election Nov. 27. She filed for town clerk, town treasurer, and school treasurer.
