NEWPORT, VT - “When I first met my wife she was sitting right over there in the corner,” Roger Cartee of Newport said as he toured the building, located on Central Street in Newport, which at one time housed the Express and Standard newspaper and later the Newport Daily Express. “She worked here in the main office and I was a part-time sports writer.”
NEWPORT CITY – Four city residents are facing off at a chance to win one of two seats on the Newport City Council. Incumbents John Wilson and Tim de la Bruere are going up against Mark Guyette and Peter Holden.

De la Bruere is seeking his third two-year seat. He likes the council because there are no political lines. Instead, it is five “everyday people” in the city who come together to deal with municipal issues.Â
NEWPORT, VT - The School-Based Enterprise (SBE) at North Country Career Center of Newport, VT, was among 137 school stores in the United States achieving Gold Level Certification (or Gold Level Re-certification) this year and will be recognized at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The students who worked on the certification were senior Alisha Duncan, juniors Tyler Paxman and Aidan Smith, assisted by advisors Sue Birchard and Lydia Alexander.
