Three Arraigned for Having a Bomb

NEWPORT CITY – Three Northeast Kingdom men were in court yesterday, charged with making and possessing a pipe bomb.
Cody Macfarlane, 23, of Newport; Nathaniel Chaffee, 24, of Newport; and John Glover, 24, of Barton all entered not guilty pleas in Orleans County Court. Judge Robert Bent held Chaffee and Glover on $5,000 bail and Macfarlane on $7,500.

Rev. Mary-Marguerite Kohn Is Victim of Fatal Shooting

ELLICOTT CITY, MD - The Rev. Mary-Marguerite Kohn, who has often served the St. Mark's Episcopal Church community in Newport, was the victim of a fatal shooting in Ellicott City near Baltimore, MD, May 3.
The shooting occurred at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Brenda Brewington, 59, of Ellicott City, the church's administrative assistant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rev. Kohn, 62, of Arbutus, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she died Saturday night.

Missing Essex Couple Sought in Coventry Landfill

COVENTRY - State and federal authorities along with the Essex Police Department are searching the New England Waste Services of Vermont (NEWSVT) Landfill in Coventry today for the bodies of two missing Essex, VT residents.
According to a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice in Burlington, the search is connected to the investigation into the disappearance of William and Lorraine Currier. The Curriers have been missing since June 8, 2011.
Today's search is an extension of a search conducted April 12 and 13 on Route 15 in Essex.
