DERBY – Come November, voters in some Orleans County communities may need scorecards as they watch their favorite politicians play a game of political shuffle.
Long time Republican Senator Vince Illuzzi is giving up his seat for a run at state auditor. Rep. Bob Lewis (Orleans-1), who replaced Loren Shaw who stepped down in 2008, is seeking Illuzzi’s senatorial seat. Meanwhile, Shaw has decided to throw his hat back into the political ring for another go at serving constituents.
NEWPORT CITY – The Veterans Administration opened an outpatient clinic Aug. 12, 2010, at North Country Hospital. At first, the clinic saw patients one and a half days a week. With an abundance of patients, the clinic quickly outgrew the facilities it shared with visiting physicians.
Friday marked a turning point for the clinic when it officially held a ribbon cutting at its new quarters on the Crawford Road by the I-91 access road.
NEWPORT, VT – Dr. Normand Turcotte began organizing the Soap Box Derby in Newport in 1979, and has no intention of stopping the tradition. His daughter Lisa Turcotte-Thomas raced in the event in 1983 and now his grandchildren participate.
His 10-year-old granddaughter Destiny Larocque won the event in Newport Sunday. This is her fourth year participating. Like all participants, she built her car herself, with help from her dad Ken Larocque.
