July 10, 2012

NEWPORT CITY – A boat ride can be a very tranquil thing to do on a warm sunny day, but don’t let a delightful trip have a tragic ending.
“You have to be safe when you’re boating,” said Newport City Fire Chief Jamie LeClair Monday.
Boaters should know the water they are in and should tell someone where they are going. Boaters should not go out alone. They should be aware of the weather, which includes having a radio that receives broadcasts from the National Weather Service.

Ambulance Argument Turns Nasty

DERBY – Another discussion over the Derby Line Ambulance quickly grew heated and led to foul and vulgar language at the Derby Select Board’s regular meeting Monday.
A group of people formerly associated with the ambulance service have shown up several times at select board meetings to express their concerns over how the ambulance is run. Leading the charge is Roger Gosselin, a former member of the ambulance service, and Nathan Pickard, who went on a few calls with Gosselin.

Vicki Strong: Not Just a Politician

July 10, 2012

ALBANY – Republican Rep. Vicki Strong (Orleans-Caledonia-1) hopes that voters in her district will send her back to Montpelier.
Strong, who is seeking her second term, called her first year a learning experience.
Part of her education in Montpelier included learning about the legislative process, what it takes to see a bill happen and why Vermont even needs a legislature.
“Learning the whole process was a big, big step for me,” she said. “I still have a lot to learn. Just being part of that was exciting and interesting.”
