ANGELIC VOICES

August 9, 2012

BARTON – Keegan Nolan, who has been compared to Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, produced the youth-oriented talent show "Young Guns Tailgate Tour," which played in Newport's Gardener Park Wednesday.
Children of all ages from Franklin County sang, danced, played musical instruments and performed stand up comedy to an intimate crowd.
Audience members raved about the performance, saying the children's voices sounded like angels in the park.
The show is always looking for new talent and performs mostly in the summer.

DERBY – The Northeast Kingdom is getting closer to having more development between the Derby Road and Shattuck Hill Road.
Jeff Davis, president of JL Davis in Burlington, confirmed yesterday that in June his firm purchased 10 acres from local developer Tony Tanguay for $600,000. The land adjoins the 19 acres Davis has owned since about 2005. The site is across from the former Lo’s Tavern on the Derby Road.
“We feel good about the development potential of the property and wanted to have some more land over there,” said Davis.

Sen. Bobby Starr: Remembering Where He Came From

August 9, 2012

NORTH TROY – Sen. Bobby Starr wants to return to the State House.
Starr, a democrat, has served Vermonters for 34 years, eight years in the senate and 26 years in the house of representatives. He said it seems every year has its challenging moments.
Last year, legislators were able to continue property tax relief for IROC. Starr said IROC is no different from the YMCA in Burlington with the exception that the YMCA has a permanent property tax exemption. Lawmakers are trying to get the same exemption for IROC.
