NEWPORT CITY - After a more than three-hour sentencing hearing Wednesday, Judge Howard VanBenthuysen handed Cristopher Smith, 27, a three-five year suspended sentence except for 437 days to serve with credit for time served, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has been in jail since Aug. 11, 2011.
JAY - Jay Peak Resort has always been a popular spot for weddings, but now with all the new facilities and amenities, that popularity has exploded. The resort has unveiled plans to build a wedding and special events facility.
The Jay Planning Commission and Zoning Board held a hearing on the proposal Monday evening. The board unanimously approved the plans, but the approval is contingent upon the Jay Fire Department being comfortable with the plans.
CHARLESTON, VT – Six years after being diagnosed with a rare muscle disease called Dermatomyositis, Mariah Bowman recently underwent surgery to replace her liver, pancreas, intestines and abdominal muscles.
Bowman began to show symptoms of the disease at the age of 11, while a student at Charleston Elementary School.
In spite of the fact that Bowman is home schooled and has been staying in Indianapolis with her mother while she undergoes treatment, former counselor and now principal at the school Sharon Gonyaw has worked with others in the community to raise funds for Bowman.
