LOWELL WIND: THE FINAL TREK

September 16, 2012

LOWELL – The final oversized truckload shipment destined for Green Mountain Power’s wind turbine farm on Lowell Mountain will roll through today, but will take a different route.
The final truckload will contain the repaired tower base, which was damaged in a rollover accident on Interstate 91 in mid-July.
At the time of the accident, the truck driver reportedly got too close to the shoulder of the road and the trailer rolled causing some damage to the component. Roadwork was occurring on the Interstate at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

DERBY - Some residents of Derby experienced a temporary power outage Sunday when a motor vehicle ran into and snapped a utility pole, downing lines on RT 5 in Derby.
Joannalynn Robishaw of Derby, VT, was north of Walt's Sales and Service and headed towards Derby in this Dodge Caravan when she went to reach for an item and her vehicle drifted into the northbound lane of travel, said police. To avoid hitting an oncoming car, Robishaw crossed the northbound lane and struck a telephone pole, snapping it in half.

CLERK FACES AUDITOR’S REPORT

September 16, 2012

COVENTRY – Selectmen and Coventry Treasurer Cindy Diaz will meet at the Community Center tonight to discuss a situation report, submitted by Vermont Auditor Tom Salmon in August, that raises some questions about accounting practices in the town office.
Diaz is also the town clerk.
“I don’t know if there is enough in that report to really say there is any wrongdoing or not,” said Coventry Select Board Chair Mike Marcotte. “I think we need to continue on with this report and an audit of our own that will work off this.”
