LOWELL â Approximately 120 oversized and overweight trucks rolled through Island Pond, Charleston, and Derby and onto Interstate 91 before exiting in Orleans and continuing on to the Kingdom Community Wind site in Lowell.
The trucks caused few reported problems. Traffic delays were up to 20 minutes near corners and the rollover accident caused one side of the Interstate to be closed down for several hours.
NEWPORT CITY â The state auditorâs office needs more transparency and more accountability, said Democrat Doug Hoffer who is challenging Vince Illuzzi for the position of state auditor in November.
âI think people have the right to expect that the auditorâs office audit itself," Hoffer said. âRight now, if you were curious about the auditorâs budget, you could never find the details because he doesnât post them.â
Hoffer stressed that current auditor Tom Salmon, who is not seeking reelection, does not keep the information a secret and will provide it upon request.
NEWPORT CITY â The November General Election is about eight weeks away and Democrats are moving full speed ahead in an effort to outdo their Republican counterparts. Friday evening, local Democrats held a launch party at the Gateway Center where area residents had the chance to meet party candidates, enjoy refreshments and take in breathtaking views of Lake Memphremagog.
The message Orleans County Chair Judy Bevans took away from the Democratic National Convention earlier this month is that the party has a message: âPress it Forward.â
