NEWPORT- An incident on Union Street Wednesday prompted the Newport City Police to call North Country Union High School, North Country Hospital, and RDI, the call center on Lakemont St., among other entities, advising they lock down their facilities.
When the call came in to NCUHS’s Principal Bill Rivard, he wasn't given a reason for the directive, but quickly followed protocol, locked all exit doors and had staff stationed at each exit to control who entered and left.

The city and village entered into a contract in 1997 that said the village would supply water to the City Center Industrial Park. As part of the agreement, the city invested $800,000 to $900,000 for the construction of a water main with the understanding that the village would provide 10,000 gallons of water a day to the city.
DERBY – Karen Jenne has officially announced her candidacy for Derby Town Clerk and Treasurer.
Jenne is a Derby Select Board member and will not seek re-election to the board at Town Meeting. She is ready for a change, is well-qualified, and many people have asked her to seek the position, she said. A special election was held for the town clerk in November, but Jenne said she wanted to finish her term on the board before going in a new direction.
