VEC Crews Work Through Christmas To Restore Power

NORTH TROY - In an attempt to restore power to customers affected by the ice storm on Sunday, December 22, Vermont Electric Co-op increased the number of crews to 600.

Ice Storm Continues Wreaking Havoc

ORLEANS COUNTY – The weekend ice storm that wreaked havoc on the Kingdom continues to leave thousands in the dark. At the peak of the power outage more than 21,000 Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) members were without electricity.

St. Paul’s Students Spread Holiday Cheer

BARTON - St. Paul’s School in Barton spent Thursday morning, December 20, bringing cheer to the community with students regaling businesses, the town clerk’s office, Maple Lane Nursing Home, and the Senior Center in Barton with Christmas carols.

Night Of A Thousand Kicks Benefits Fire Victim

NEWPORT CITY - Last month, fire destroyed a Central Street apartment building and severely damaged the neighboring building, leaving 11 families homeless. Last Thursday, students from Deslandes Blue Wave Tae Kwon Do Academy on East Main Street held a kick-a-thon to help one of the families.

North Country Union Junior High School custodian identifies expensive problems

DERBY – It took a special North Country High School board meeting Thursday, Dec. 19 to approve the junior high school’s bond request, which will go to voters in January.
Inclement weather caused the high school board to postpone a decision to approve the bond vote due to the lack of a quorum.

Ice Storm Causes Thousands Of Power Outages

About 13,000 members of the Vermont Electric Cooperative lost power in a widespread ice storm over the weekend. A meteorologist compared the storm to the one in 1998 in terms of affected area.

Santa’s Helpers Deliver Presents To Area Schools

DERBY - For the past six years area law enforcement officers have helped Santa Claus prepare for the big day by collecting presents for deserving children.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department organizes “Operation Santa.” Department personnel determine the needs of deserving youngsters and their siblings by speaking to officials at area schools.
