NEWPORT CITY â€“ Alex Tabor, the Newport City man accused of firing a shotgun in city limits Monday, was held at the Northern State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail after entering not guilty pleas to reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and unlawful mischief in Orleans County Court Wednesday.
The gun was a double barreled, 12 gauge Stevens Model 311.
If Tabor makes bail, he will have to abide by numerous conditions.
COVENTRY â€“ With the price of milk down and plenty of space to work with, the Maxwell Family Farm in Coventry has diversified. They have built a 70-foot by 30-foot greenhouse.
The structure has been up since August and the results have been good.
Stuart Maxwell explains, "We heat the greenhouse with our digester building's heating system. We have radiant heat in the ground and heaters powered by the digester. We had the space and heat so we decided to do something with it. Milk prices are low so we needed to diversify."
This time of year, the Maxwells are growing lettuce and greens.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ Alex Tabor, 32, of Newport, was arrested by Newport City Police Monday after he allegedly fired off a shotgun within city limits. Tabor is scheduled to be arraigned today.
City police responded to the intersection of Pleasant and Third streets just before 1 AM Monday after receiving a complaint that Tabor had fired a gun over someone's head. Someone driving by at the time reported that their vehicle may have been hit but no injuries were reported.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ New Yearâ€™s Day will forever be memorable for Darlene Gilchrist and Cody Reynolds of Island Pond.
Not only did the couple have the first baby of the New Year to be born at North Country Hospital, they also had the first baby of 2013 to be born in the state.
Sayge Reynolds came into the world at 1:59 a.m. Her weight was six pounds, five ounces and she was 20 inches long.
â€śItâ€™s exciting,â€ť said Gilchrist. â€śJust to know I was the first one in all of Vermont to have a baby of the New Year.â€ť
Cody Reynolds, who wasnâ€™t sure how to react, said he was taking it all in.
