NEWPORT CENTER – An early morning fire destroyed a home on Gibbs Road Wednesday.
Firefighters responded to the structure fire shortly after midnight and found a fully engulfed home.
“It was a very long night,” said fire Chief Kurk Flynn. Road conditions were slippery and icy and firefighters had issues getting sand. They obtained water from a brook near the fire station. “Unfortunately, most of the house was destroyed by the time we got there due to the location and the length of time it had been burning,” Flynn said.
