DERBY â€“ The local Ducks Unlimited Chapter held its 37th annual banquet and fundraiser at the Elks Club in Derby Saturday night with more than 150 supporters in attendance. The event combines a variety of fundraising activities, an update of legislation under consideration by the Vermont House and Senate, and a fellowship dinner that brought together supporters of Ducks Unlimited's mission.
NEWPORT â€“ Students across the Northeast Kingdom are getting ready for the annual NEK History Day event. A group of sixth grade students from Brighton Elementary School are working on a breast cancer exhibit and presentation that will go on display at IROC.
The theme of this year's competition is Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events. The group is focusing on how cancer awareness, particularly breast cancer, has changed the world.
NEWPORT CITY â€“ Isaiah Dowland, seven, is rising above the teasing of some of his classmates at Newport City School and growing his hair long enough to be made into a pony tail for one special reason â€“ so he can donate the hair to Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a public, non-profit organization that provides hairpieces from real hair to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada who are suffering from long term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
