NEPWORT - Developer Bill Stenger is hoping to get a U.S. Port of Entry at the waterfront hotel he is proposing on the shores of international Lake Memphremagog in Newport.
He made the announcement at a press briefing last week to present an update on all the projects planned in the $600-million economic revitalization effort for the Northeast Kingdom.
Stenger is in talks with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to make it happen and hopes to allow float planes, which can land on water, to come in at the hotel.
NEWPORT CITY – Modern day firefighting is more than spraying water on a burning building. This past weekend, hundreds of area firefighters from 24 departments attended the Regional Fire School at the North Country Career Center.
ORLEANS – The Orleans American Legion held it's annual breakfast to kick off fishing season in Orleans County. Over 150 avid fisherman gathered, ready to tackle the elements and renew old acquaintances while focusing on fishing local waters.
American Legion Post 23 put on a huge spread at the anti-inflamary price of $6 per person. As the throng enjoyed a great breakfast of ham, pancakes, sausage, bacon, potatoes and the trimmings, Orleans Rod and Gun Club President Brian Haley, who has led the organization for 25 years, emceed the gathering.
