COVENTRY â€“ A fiery two-vehicle crash on US RT 5 in Coventry took the life of an Albany, VT, man Monday morning. Timothy J. Harrington, 57, was pronounced dead on the scene after his 1999 Saab 9.3 struck a 2010 Western Star Tractor Trailer being driven by Kevin Barrup, 48, of Derby. Barrup sustained what police have described as minor injuries and was taken to North Country Hospital for treatment.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ Upward of 100 people attended a Sunday potluck luncheon and book signing for Jack Lazor, who has authored "The Organic Grain Grower." Along with his wife, Ann, Jack has spent decades at Butterworks Farm in Westfield producing organic products such as yogurt.

BARTON - The Orleans County Fair concluded with a bang Sunday evening during the annual demolition derby, making it the ultimate car wreck. This year's first place went to two new winners. Brandon Butler, 16, of Irasburg, won the four-cylinder class and Reg Norris of Brownington won the six to eight-cylinder class.

BARTON â€“ Kenny Martin, 72, of Fairhaven, has been driving horses in the harness racing at the Orleans County Fair since the 1950s. Friday, Orleans County Fair officials presented Martin and George Barnard with awards for their years of dedication. Barnard has been driving horses nearly as long as Martin.

BARTON â€“ In an impromptu decision yesterday, the Northeast International Mutual Aid decided to hold a raffle at the Orleans County Fair this week. Firefighters will draw the winning name for the raffle â€“ a woodcarving done during a Masters of the Chainsaw Show â€“ during the Demolition Derby Sunday, the last day of the fair.
