PREEMIE THRIVES ON MOM’S MILK

August 14, 2013

NEWPORT – Nine months ago, Dawn Philip and Stephen Klemchuk were expecting a child.
Dawn was just over half way through her pregnancy and at week 25, 15 weeks prior to the due date, her water broke. Dawn went to North Country Hospital and was sent by ambulance to Dartmouth Medical Center in Hanover, NH, as North Country Hospital was unable to care for very premature babies.

FAIR OPENS TOMORROW

BARTON - It's mid August. The crops are grown and kids are getting ready to return to the classroom. That can only mean one thing. It's time for the Orleans County Fair. This year's fair starts tomorrow with a flag raising ceremony and ends with a bang during the demolition derby Sunday evening.
New events this year include the "Chew on This Tour."

EXPLORE COUNTRY THYME VERMONT

ARSON GUTS FIREHOUSE

ALBANY – Fire officials believe a blaze that damaged the town's only fire station and its fire trucks was intentionally set. Albany Fire Chief Donald Peters said witnesses saw someone leaving the area near the fire station on a four wheeler shortly before the blaze broke out.

CVS EYES DERBY SITE

DERBY – The chain drug store CVS has applied to build a store in Derby. The developers want to build on the former AmeriGas site on Route 5 and Shattuck Hill Road directly across the street from Kinney Drugs.

BROWNINGTON'S TIME MACHINE

August 11, 2013

BROWNINGTON - It was the ultimate history lesson Sunday during Old Stone House Day.
Old Stone House Day happens once a year. The day gives everyone the opportunity to tour the multi-story building and barns for free. The property houses equipment used by early Americans. Volunteers also demonstrated how Americans lived, traveled, worked, and played in the 1800s.

SOAP BOX HERO

August 8, 2013

NEWPORT – Dr. Normand Turcotte of Newport won the Outstanding Director Award for the All American Soap Box Derby. Only about eight awards are given out throughout the world. Turcotte received the award while he was attending the Soap Box Derby International Championship Race in Akron, OH, in July. The award was a big surprise to Turcotte.

WINGS TAKES FLIGHT

COVENTRY – The final walk through is near as the new Wings restaurant and bar opens today in Coventry at the Newport Airport. Cavan Meese, one of the business’s driving forces and co-owners, has not slept much the last few days as the operation gets ready for its kickoff. Meese said, "It’s still a lot of running around and getting final things done.”
