Derby Town Plan Ready For Voter Approval

January 26, 2014

DERBY - On Wednesday, January 22 the Derby select board held the second of two public hearings for residents to ask questions and make comments regarding the proposed new town plan. Following a short discussion following the hearing the select board unanimously agreed to send the proposal to voters on Town Meeting Day. The vote will be by Australian ballot.

NCH ‘Holding Hands’ With Change

The focus of North Country Hospital’s (NCH) annual meeting Thursday at the East Side Restaurant was on its many accomplishments and change. The hospital has been in the news lately for some problems it is dealings with like the OSHA violations, and layoffs, among others, but there were many accomplishments over the past year.

High School Students Rock The Kingdom

NEWPORT CITY - Friday night the North Country Union High School auditorium turned into a magical venue for seven bands from that school, North Country Union Junior High School and Lake Region Union High School, who put on a rock concert that left the audience screaming for more.

Ice Fishing Tourney Benefits Derby Line Fire Department

MORGAN - Supporters of the Derby Line Fire Department will host an ice fishing derby at Seymour Lake in Morgan next weekend. The event unofficially started more than ten years ago, but as support grew, the fundraiser was formally organized around four years ago.

Ct. Men Arrested In Orleans County Waive Extradition

January 23, 2014

NEWPORT CITY - Two Connecticut men on the run from police were on their way back to that state Thursday after waiving extradition in the criminal division of Orleans Superior Court.
Police in Connecticut are accusing Jaheem Snype, 19, of running down a police officer with a stolen car Sunday, Jan. 19, and dragging him.
He and another man, Frank Gonzalez Jr., 23, were arrested in Barton Wednesday.

Brighton DRB Hears Dollar General

ISLAND POND — Dollar General, the smallest but perhaps most successful of the big name box stores, is one step closer to building a new store in Island Pond. On Tuesday, the Town of Brighton Development Review Board (DRB) held the public hearing and application review as required by the town zoning bylaws.
