Jones Challenges Tetreault For Derby Tax Collector

February 27, 2014

The delinquent tax collector position is one that is typically held by clerks, but in 2012 assistant Derby town clerk Maryann Tetreault ran against former town clerk Nicole Daigle and won. The following year Tetreault was challenged by Ann Jones and still came out on top. This year Jones is running against Tetreault again.

LaBranche Lumber Gets Golden Award From CWS

COVENTRY - Jean-Pierre LaBranche beamed ear-to-ear Tuesday as members from local state human service agencies handed him a plaque for his efforts to hire consumers enrolled with Creative Workforce Solutions (CWS). CWS helps individuals with employment barriers keep and retain jobs.

Newport Planners Propose Bylaw Changes For Building Height

NEWPORT CITY - The planning commission Tuesday night added another layer of bureaucracy when it comes to buildings taller than 72 feet in any zoning district that allows such a building. The Newport City council will have the final say on the bylaw change.

Gardner Park Restoration Planning Underway

Plans are underway to restore and improve Gardner Park in Newport. Currently Andy Cappello, the director of the Newport Recreation Department, and the Restoration Committee are working on attaining a planning grant in the amount of $30,000.

Derby resident Robert Ovitt is challenging incumbent Brian Smith, the chairman of the select board. During Town Meeting voters will decide if they want to give Smith another three years or choose a new person, Ovitt.

EPA Proposes New Wood Furnace Regulations

DERBY - The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed new rules for indoor and outdoor wood burning furnaces. The EPA released the rules in January targeting new wood stoves and furnaces, but took a pass on existing furnaces.

Vermont Lawmakers Looking At Drugged Driving Law

Vermont lawmakers are looking at a drugged driving law.
During Monday’s Legislative Breakfast at the East Side Restaurant, Rep. Vicki Strong (R-Olreans-Caledonia-1) of Albany said the law is in regards to the state’s opiate addiction problem.
