Plans For Special Olympics Torch Run Heating Up

DERBY - The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, the kickoff for Special Olympic Vermont Summer Games, is heating up early.

Executive Director Of NCIC Keynote Speaker At Chamber Meeting

NEWPORT CITY - Vermont’s North Country Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting last week, an event highlighted by Jon Freeman, head of NCIC. The Northern Community Investment Corporation, whose headquarters are in St. Johnsbury, serves the Northeast Kingdom. The organization helps mature and new businesses grow by providing business acumen and technical support.

AnC Bio Vermont One Step Closer to Reality

AnC Bio Vermont has received a green light from the Newport Development Review Board (DRB). The board Wednesday unanimously granted site plan approval and a local Act 250 permit for the biotechnology plant under the ownership name Jay Peak Biomedical Park.

Newport Ambulance Starts New Care Practices

NEWPORT CITY - Employees at the Newport Ambulance Service (NAS) have worked since October to prepare to meet new patient care guidelines that went into effect April 1.
Each NAS member and its affiliate, Northern EMS (NEMS) in Johnson, invested 1,032 hours in collective training that gives them the ability to provide additional care.

B & W Owner Hands Over The Keys After 25 Years: Snack Bar Opens Thursday

ORLEANS — Today (April 24) B & W snack bar will open for the season. The little snack bar is a staple in the summer schedules of many Kingdom residents. But this year there will be a new face to the restaurant, that of Lisa Cox.
Cox bought the snack bar two weeks ago and has been “under the gun” ever since to be ready for opening. Luckily, veteran owner Odessa Sanville is there to help her through the transition.
Sanville has owned the restaurant for 25 years, and it has been in her family almost since the beginning.

Olympians Share Memories: Sargent and Dunklee Come Home To Barton

BARTON - On Tuesday evening a packed Barton Memorial Building was treated to a slide show and question-and-answer session with two local Olympians. Susan Dunklee and Ida Sargent participated in the Sochi Winter Olympics a few months ago.

Jay Peak Season In Uncharted Territory

Jay Peak continues enjoying an excellent skiing and riding season that is still going strong. The mountain has received prolific snowfall this year, with an unheard of seven additional feet within the last month-and-a-half. Resort officials report that they plan to be opened until Mother’s Day, May 11.

Community Justice Center Holds Drug Forum
