Sitting The MAC: Artists Contribute Time In Newport’s Arts Center

Jeff Fellinger is one of more than 40 artists who comprise the cadre of dedicated artisans, knitters, painters, wood crafters or sculptors who are represented in the MAC Center for the Arts on Main Street in Newport City.

TOWN MEETING PREVIEW: Holland Hopes To Invest In Its Roads

HOLLAND – The Town of Holland is hoping to invest more money in their roads, which are in desperate need of repair. The proposed town budget is up slightly by about $76,000 for a total of $656,983.

Obama Declares Vermont Disaster After Ice Storm

President Barack Obama declared a disaster occurred in Vermont due to the ice storm that struck just before Christmas. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Vermont to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe winter storms.

Newport City: Mayor Scolds Council For Tabling Chamber Request

NEWPORT CITY - Mayor Paul Monette scolded the city council Monday night for not voting to allow a non-profit to use the Gateway Center with no charge. After a brief discussion, Alderman Richard Baraw moved to table the issue until the next meeting in two weeks.

LRUHS Teacher Roland Woodard To Retire

BARTON – Forty-one years ago Roland Woodard started a teaching career at Hazen Union High School in Hardwick. Twenty-five years later Woodard started teaching social studies at Lake Region Union High School. On Monday evening, February 3 Woodard appeared before the high school board to offer his resignation.

Alleged Cruiser Crusher Case Delayed For Now

NEWPORT CITY - A pre-trial hearing for the man accused of crushing several Orleans County Sheriff’s Department cruisers with a large farm tractor was continued Tuesday. Roger Pion will most likely face trial in either late March or sometime in April.
The court had scheduled jury selection for Pion, 35, of Newport Thursday. But Pion’s attorney, Chandler Matson of Stowe, asked to put that off. When asked why by the press, Matson declined to explain.

City School Budget Up 2.5 Percent
