North Country Union High School: Quilts And Concert For Homeless Veterans

DERBY CENTER – North Country Union Junior High School students sewed bags and quilts for homeless veterans that will be distributed around Memorial Day.

Event In Honor Of Steve Wright This Weekend

Friends and neighbors are rallying around Steve E. Wright of Craftsbury, who lost his home and dog in a house fire in March. Sterling College will be hosting a potluck fundraiser/community gathering on Sunday, May 18 at 5:30 in Dunbar Hall.

North Country Union Junior high School: Construction Bids Way Below Bond Amount

NEK Development Initiative: Burke Mountain Groundbreaking Coming Soon

Groundbreaking on development at Q Burke Mountain Resort is slated to happen on June 3. The multi-million-dollar plans call for a new 116-suite hotel and conference center, an indoor tennis facility, and aquatic center.

CWS Awards Jay Peak Resort

JAY - At 1,500 employees, Jay Peak is one of the region’s largest employers. Tuesday afternoon representatives from Creative Workforce Solutions (CWS) presented the resort and its president, Bill Stenger, a golden medal recognition award for hiring CWS consumers.

Jay Peak Resort Gets Act 250 Permit For Stateside Cottages

Jay Peak Resort has received another Act 250 permit, this time for townhouses at the mountain. The District 7 Environmental Commission has issued a land use permit amendment for the construction of “Stateside Cottages” on May 1.

Select Board OKs Committee To Study Landfill Money

COVENTRY - The select board Monday evening somewhat informally gave resident Leo Piette the okay for a committee to study ways that residents can more fairly reap the benefits from tipping fees the town receives from hosting the New England Waste Services of Vermont.

The Legislature: Minimum Wage Step Increase Bill Passes

DERBY – Legislation enacting a multi-step increase in the minimum wage over a three-year period passed with bipartisan support at the State House before the Legislature adjourned over the weekend.
Representative Loren Shaw (R - Derby) said the minimum wage bill passed with bipartisan support.

Lawmakers Overhaul Police Credentials

Lawmakers have passed a bill that eliminates part-time police officers, and instead creates a new three-level standard of measure. Each level requires a specific set of training requirements, and various levels of police power.
