NEWPORT, VT - Glen Boule, 19, of Newport, pleaded not guilty last Tuesday to a charge of aggravated assault for allegedly kicking a man in the head while the victim was wrestling with a third party.
Boule was held at the time on $5,000 bail and given a list of conditions including to to submit a DNA sample to the Newport City Police Department within 20 days.
Feb. 8, around 7 PM, City Police Officer J. Lillis was called to a report of a fight at the intersection of Pleasant and Third streets in Newport. When the officer arrived, the fight had broken up and the parties had disappeared.
JAY â€“ On Town Meeting Day next week, Missisquoi Valley Ambulance Service (MVAS) members plan to pitch the idea of constructing their own building to the communities they serve: Jay, Troy, North Troy, Lowell and Westfield.
MVAS currently leases the former Jay Town Garage. It also leases space at the former Poulin Lumber Building in North Troy, but that is expected to end soon and members are moving out their equipment.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ The American Red Cross and Local Emergency Planning Committee will hold a shelter training class at North Country Union High School onÂ Saturday. The class will run from 9 a.m. until about 3 p.m.
North Country Union High School will be this areaâ€™s Red Cross designated shelter if a mass casualty event were to occur. The school will also be the areaâ€™s mass surge, mass care facility for North Country Hospital.Â
DERBY LINE - Tonight's Public Service Board public hearing at the Derby Line Elementary School regarding the Derby wind tower project has been CANCELLED due to bad weather.

NEWPORT, VT - Gas prices are soaring sky high. Itâ€™s enough to make even Don Quixote dizzy.
But while the great knight may be charging windmills with his trusty lance, other people are wondering if windmills are just the answer we need to high fuel costs.
In the meantime, economic prophets predict gas will hit $5 a gallon this summer.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ Orleans County Judge Robert Bent released Kellie Peters on conditions Tuesday after the 26-year-old Newport woman pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of alleged financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
Peters was working for Bayada Nurses when she started taking care of a 66-year-old Newport woman. Court records identify the woman simply as "the client."
DERBY - Representatives from Newport City, Derby Town and local legislators met with Burlington developer Jeffrey Davis at the Cow Palace Monday evening to discuss bringing a Wal-Mart to the Newport Derby area.
The meeting was unofficial and Derby Select Board Chair Brian Smith, who somewhat moderated the informal gathering, asked if anyone objected having the press present and offered to hold the meeting at another time.
NEWPORT, VT - Conrad Masse, 76, of Craftsbury, pleaded innocent Tuesday to a charge of aggravated assault for shooting a friend of his during a bear hunting outing in Albany, VT, on Oct. 30 of last year. The charge states that the defendant "caused serious bodily injury to another recklessly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life."
State Police reported that they were called to the scene of the shooting, which had occurred on the Urie Road in Albany, and arrived to find state fish and game wardens on the scene and conducting an investigation.
DERBY - It is not fair that some children are born with or develop life threatening diseases that take away from a time in their lives that should be nothing less than carefree and magical. But it happens, and there are a number of organizations and people who do all they can to bring some magic into the lives of affected children and their families to help relieve stress and create lasting memories.
