NEWPORT CITY â€“ During Monday's City Council meeting, officials from the Agency of Transportation presented the framework for what exactly will happen during the reconstruction of the Long Bridge.
The council also approved lifting the noise ordinance while the state paves US Route 5 from the Airport Road to Coventry Street so that crews may pave at night to reduce traffic tie-ups. Part of the paving project includes roads intended for the detoured traffic blocked from using the Long Bridge. Â
NEWPORT - Once again Hayes Ford teamed up with Vista Foods to collect and distribute complete Thanksgiving Dinners to local families in need, just in time for the holiday.
The food was distributed to local organizations such as senior centers, churches and schools.
NEWPORT, VT - The two young men arrested on Lowell Mountain for contempt of court both pleaded innocent to the misdemeanor charge in Orleans Superior Court Criminal Division Tuesday morning.
They were released on conditions. David Martorana, 19, and Trevor Ring, 20, both Sterling College students, were arrested on Lowell Mountain around 10 AM on Nov. 9.
The mountain "occupiers" oppose the construction of the industrial scale Lowell wind turbine project and are camping on the mountain near the construction site.
CHARLESTON, VT - Moretown Elementary School is in one of the communities hard hit by Hurricane Irene. Charleston learned about Moretown Elementary School when it was highlighted on the Channel 3 News.
Charlestonâ€™s Interim Principal Sharon Gonyaw made an outreach call to Moretown and asked how the Charleston School could help. School officials spoke with Mrs. Gonyaw about five families who are still displaced from their homes.
Charleston staff and students have adopted those five families.

NEWPORT CITY â€“ Officials from Keene Medical Products are strongly denying allegations of sexual harassment and of intentional infliction of emotional harm to a former employee, Heather O' Neil. O'Neil has filed a complaint against Keene claiming Newport Branch Manager Joseph Lemieux and others engaged in the offensive behavior.
Oâ€™Neil said Lemieux, and at times other men in the office, subjected her to severe and pervasive sexual harassment in the form of cruel sexual taunts, lewd and offensive sexually explicit language and invitations to engage in inappropriate activity.
BURLINGTON, VT â€“ Vermont Ballet Theater is returning for its seventh season with their luxurious production of The Nutcracker ballet.
With four sold-out performances last year at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, it has quickly become a Christmas tradition for Vermont families.
DERBY - Preparations for the annual community Thanksgiving Day celebration are well underway. Work began weeks ago and many people are involved to make the day a special and memorable event.
The event is Thursday at the Elks Club in Derby, and the Area Agency on Aging is coordinating everything along with the Elks Club.
High school culinary arts students and several local restaurants are preparing the feast.
Thursday morning, a group of volunteers will begin preparing for home delivery to those who cannot make it to the meal.
NEWPORT - North Country Union High School presented it's Winter Dance and Drama Concert Sunday. Students also did dress rehearsals for elementary and junior high students Friday.
The drama program included This is a Test by Stephen Gregg and Directed by Chase Gosselin and Meghan Corbett, and St. Joan Monologue by William Shakespeare from Henry VI, Act I, Scene 2, performed by Meghan Corbet.
BRIGHTON â€“ Students and staff at Brighton Elementary School went under lockdown Friday while state police searched a nearby home for a methamphetamine (meth) lab.
Essex County Stateâ€™s Attorney Vince Illuzzi said that state police executed a search warrant at a home on Rail Road Street. The house, said Illuzzi, is located near the Vermont Department of Transportation Garage.
