The election for Orleans County stateâ€™s attorney is typically a lackluster race, but not this year. Four attorneys are vying for the position of top prosecutor. The candidate forum sponsored and organized by local media establishments for those running was held at a Newport restaurant Monday evening.

MONTPELIER â€“ Curtis Smiley with the Vermont Big Game Trophy Club says a huge bear taken in the 2013 hunting season is the heaviest bear taken in Vermont by bow and arrow since 1898, and that it is a new record according to skull measurements.

COVENTRY - The select board signed an agreement Monday night to lease two fully equipped plow trucks to maintain its roads. The cost to lease the trucks for six years is $372,200.

Jay Peak Resort announced Friday that it will pay out an additional $350,000 this year to the partners in its first EB-5 project, the Tram Haus Lodge. The announcement comes on the heels of criticism by investors on how the agreement and exit strategy were being handled by resort President Bill Stenger and his business partners.

NEWPORT CITY - Friday afternoon in Gardner Park the music was blaring and the cheers were loud as dozens of skateboarders with all levels of expertise flaunted their stuff at the Newport Shred Fest.
Newport Shred Fest is a new event the Newport Parks and Recreation Department wants to bring to the city every year.
