BARTON â The Orleans County Fair is nothing but a memory for most people, but a dedication that took place in the barn area Thursday will linger for the family of Dr. Stanwood âDocâ Churchill family.

BRIGHTON â As the case regarding the death of an Island Pond man by stabbing at a home in Newport remains unresolved in the office of the Orleans County states attorney, friends and family of the victim, Isaac Hunt, held a memorial concert and lantern lighting ceremony on Saturday evening.

DERBY â It took less than year to assemble and Friday the grand opening of the Louis Garneau facility became a reality. The eight million dollar, 60,000 square-foot building was on display for invited guests and the media as a press conference, tour, and lunch made for a complete look and explanation of the new structure located on Route 5.

The Town of Irasburg has finally settled with former town treasurer Linda Stone. The town will pay $22,000 and the Vermont League of Cities and Towns/ PACIF will pay $58,000.

Despite a disappointing first day on a cool, damp Wednesday, the Orleans County Fair Association is optimistic about the rest of the weekend.
Tom Martin, the vice-president of the fair association, said the fair was a couple of thousand people off for opening day, but by mid-day Thursday attendance was ahead of a typical second day.
Franklin County native Keeghan Nolan, a newly signed Nashville recording artist, will be the headliner on the stage Saturday night following opening act Cody Mabe.
DERBY â The Orleans County Sheriffâs Department is in the process of reinstating its K-9 program.
