Three Men Suspected In O’Hagan Killing Due In Court

ST. JOHNSBURY (AP) — Two of three Vermont men suspected of killing a Sheffield woman during a botched 2010 robbery of her home are due in court Monday to face first-degree murder and other charges.
And an arrest warrant has been issued for a third suspect, state police said.
Richard Fletcher, 27, and Keith Baird, 33, are scheduled to answer murder and other charges during the appearance, according to records at the Caledonia Superior Court in St. Johnsbury.

Movie Shows The Faces Of Those Addicted To Drugs

State, Coventry Landowners Reach Agreement Over Cut Wood

COVENTRY - Following the ice storm in late December, Dale Perron, head of District 9 for the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS), decided a quick cleanup was in order.

A controversy arose when a 3.6-mile stretch along Route 5 south of Newport City in the Coventry was cleared of storm damage.
...
Property owners objected to the work because they were not notified previously, and the wood was collected by VTRANS and delivered to state garages in the area to heat the buildings.

Park Restoration Committee Pitches Grant Application To Newport Council

NEWPORT CITY - The Gardner Park Restoration Committee told the city council Monday evening it plans to apply for a Vermont Community Development Program (VCDP) planning grant. The grant is up to $30,000 and the city needs to provide a 25 percent match that can be in-kind services.

Town Meeting Briefs: Morgan Votes To Keep School

ORLEANS COUNTY – Article 14 is the only issue that caused any debate on Town Meeting Day in Morgan, whether the school board should sell the unoccupied school building. Student enrollment declined to the point the town started sending elementary students to Derby Elementary School.

Junior High Bond Vote Passes

A $1.9 million bond request for badly needed upgrades at the junior high school was passed handily on Town Meeting Day after failing by a couple of dozen votes in January.

Near Sweeping Approval Of School Budgets

DERBY - Voters in the North Country Supervisory Union (NCSU) school district comfortably approved the North Country Union junior and senior high school budgets, and the North Country Career Center budget.

Ambulance Appropriation Causes Friction In Barton

Though the Barton Town Select Board and highway budgets passed with little discussion, an appropriation caused some tension in the Municipal Building Tuesday night. Barton Ambulance was at the center of the issue with some strong opinions hanging in the air.

Brighton Town And School Meetings Sparsely Attended

ISLAND POND — The Town of Brighton School District and Town Meeting were sparsely attended, mainly due to the lack of any controversial issues and perhaps the frigid weather. The dual meetings passing the school budget and town budget were held on Monday night, while voting followed on Tuesday.

As a result of the election on Tuesday, retired postmaster James Cross easily won election over William Hawkins with 140 votes to Hawkins’ 67.
