Barton Board Of Selectmen: Board Votes To Call Public Hearings On ATV Issue

BARTON — The board of selectmen here in Monday’s meeting agreed to ask the towns planning commission to call public hearings in each of the town’s villages to discuss whether or not Class 2, 3, and 4 roads should be legally opened to ATV use.

Vermont Supreme Court: Derby Center OK Charging For Unused Water, Sewer

DERBY — The Vermont Supreme Court has agreed with a Superior Court ruling that the Village of Derby Center was right to charge Vermont North Properties (VNP) fees for unused water and sewer allocation.

Man Suffers Internal Injuries In Rollover

DERBY - An Orleans man went to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire Monday to receive treatment for injuries he sustained in an automobile crash Monday morning on the interstate access road.

Newport Homicide: Case Actively Investigated

The death that occurred in Newport on July 5 is being actively investigated by the Vermont State Police. There is, among other things, a volume of forensic evidence to be analyzed. I am unable to elaborate further as I have an obligation to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The Six-Year-Old Logger: Kingdom Locals Host Bennington Boy

NORTHEAST KINGDOM — This past week, through the generosity of several individuals and businesses, it was proven that Disney isn’t the only place where dreams come true. For six-year-old Keegan Brooks, a wish to experience being a logger for a day turned into a trip with rewards even the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which organized the event, didn’t plan on.

Group Wants To Restore Gardner Park Grandstand

NEWPORT CITY – If a group of local residents have their way they will restore the Gardner Park grandstand and save it from the wrecking ball. Before that happens an engineer has to do a feasibility study.
The Gardner Park Restoration Committee, the City of Newport, and Newport Rotary Club are just three of the groups looking to restore the grandstand before its 75th anniversary next year.

Cartee Longest Serving NC School Director

NEWPORT CITY — Nineteen years ago Nicole Johnson resigned from the North Country Union High School Board and Richard Cartee was appointed to replace her. He is now the longest serving member of the high school board and is also chairman of the junior high school board.

Community Commons Forum: Drug Addicts Need Support, Resources To Recover

NEWPORT CITY – Several groups agree that people addicted to illicit drugs and want to recover need opportunity, support and resources.
