IRASBURG â€“ The Common was a feast for the senses on Saturday at the Irasburg Church Fair. There was the smell of hamburgers, onions, and hot dogs cooking, as well as the chicken barbecue firing up on the grills in the back of the church.Â Held the third Saturday in July every year, the fair has something for all ages.Â

NEWPORT CITY- In 1989 owners of a hardware store, The Pick and Shovel, decided to open an ice cream stand. At first the idea wasn't universally approved; Greg Hamblett recalls that when the stand first opened people told Tim and Doug they were â€śnuts.â€ť Twenty four years later the iconic stand is a popular meeting place, not just for ice cream, but people to meet and socialize. JAY â€“ A fun-filled and educational maple event that attracts hundreds from several U.S. states and Canadian provinces will take place at Jay Peak Resort this weekend. Maplerama, hosted by the Orleans County Maple Producers, gives participants the opportunity to meet the people who create maple treats, see the latest equipment and hear all about how sugaring is done in the Northeast Kingdom. DERBY LINE â€“ Senator Bernie Sanders was in Derby Line Friday afternoon to power up the newly completed solar net metering project at the Unitarian Universalist Church.
After last minute adjustments to the system in the morning, he was on hand to throw the switch for first one, then the second inverter, which allowed the array of solar panels on the church hall roof to start sending juice to the grid.
