DERBY– The main pool at IROC is back. It’s cold, but it’s open. And there could be no better group to test it out than the IROCKET Swim Team which started its season tonight doing laps in the 66 degree water. For some like Eric Gauvin, Eli McFarlane, and Adam Lodewik, 66 degrees was no different than what they took on during the 6 mile open water swim this summer at Kingdom Swim. For others, it was “Nothing but Chilly.”
NORTHEAST KINGDOM–UCA ended its annual Spirit Week with a pair of varsity soccer matches. Once again, this years Spirit Week is in memory of former UCA student Eli Goss, who lost his life in a motor vehicle accident one year ago.
Varsity Boy's Coach Alyssa DeLaBruere said, "Even though he his not here, we can still feel him around us." While originally scheduled for a double-header at Gardner Park, the girl's game was moved to the North Country Junior High School, with the boy's remaining at Gardner.

NEWPORT–The Champlain Valley Union Red Hawks came into the Kingdom with an impressive 7-1 record in 2011, and put on a display of technical soccer wonderment as they defeated the North Country Falcons 3-0.
"These are kids who play a lot of soccer together," said Assistant Coach Andrew Roy of the Red Hawks, "They are a talented group and they are skilled and are always thinking five passes ahead."
From the opening kick-off CVU were masters of their domain, displaying a very quick and high-finesse style, and, as Coach Roy said, seemed to be thinking several moves ahead.
