NEWPORT–With a win now under their belt, the UCA boys came out and on their home court and made it two in a row, defeating Concord 56-41.
"Our overall effort was good, there was some laziness going on in the beginning, but we straightened that out in a hurry," said coach Tony DeLaBruere.
Whether it was due to laziness or not, both teams were having difficulty scoring out of the gate. Paul Saaman put up the first point when he went 1-2 from the line, and Concord came back to take their lone lead of the game with a two from Brody Young.

NEWPORT–Fresh of their first win of the season, the UCA girls had a tough battle on Saturday afternoon when they played host to the Concord Wildcats at Newport Elementary, dropping the contest 61-33.
The first quarter was an evenly played eight minutes for the Crusaders, as they displayed a competitive brand of hoops in the early going.
Concords' Kasey DeGreenia got the game started with a lay-up, and UCA's Laura Libby answered right back with three pointer. They followed that with a pair of buckets from Hannah Piette to jump out to a 7-2 lead.

NEWPORT–If you thought the hurt that the North girls basketball team put on MMU the first time they met was bad, it was nothing compared to the demoralizing 42-7 whopping they dished out on Thursday night.
"We were all stoked, we pretended like it was going to be Rice and we played better defense" said Kelsey O'Donnell on how NC was able to reduce the number of points allowed.
Quite frankly, she is right. They did not just play better defense, they played stifling defense which led to North Country allowing an average 1.75 points per quarter in the win.

Coach Rick Thomas said that, “rebound was the determining factor of the game.” His team was able to shoot 55% from the field, while collecting 20 offensive rebounds.
Coach Thomas would later add that, “the New year’s resolution of the team was to go undefeated in January. We are feeling our confidence rise and the girl’s seem to be having fun out on the court.”
