Falcons Dominate U-32, But Settle for 1-1 Tie

October 7, 2012

NEWPORT–The final varsity game of the Maniatty weekend saw the North Country (6-3-1) and U-32 (4-2-3) girls battle it out in front of a loud and supportive mix of Falcon Faithful and Raider Nation.
The weather would go from wet, to dry, from cold to warm, back to cold but try as they might, neither team could break the 1-1 deadlock, so after 100 minutes of action, the two teams were forced to settle for the tie.
"We had a good effort," said coach Peter Alexander. "There was a little too much kickball, but they played hard and it was a gutsy effort."

Falcons Fall Short, Lose 2-1 to MMU in Wild Match

October 7, 2012

NEWPORT–North Country (2-7-1) and Mount Mansfield (8-2) engaged in one slobber-knocker of a soccer game on Friday afternoon.
Bodies flying, yellow cards, red cards, screaming and yelling; It was awesome.
Sadly the Falcons lost the match in OT 2-1, but they got their money's worth out of the Cougars, that is for sure.
"It's a tough loss," said coach James McKenny. "They (MMU) capitalized when they needed to and that is the way the game goes. They have to feel pretty lucky getting out of here with a win."

Falcons Show Improvement in 55-20 Loss to Bellows Falls

October 7, 2012

NEWPORT–They say practice makes perfect, but while they are not perfect, nor did they get the win, the North Country football team's hard work paid off as they had their best showing in four weeks, breaking a three game scoreless streak in a 55-20 loss to Bellows Falls on Friday night.
"We made some adjustments and kept drilling them all week and it is starting to pay off," said head coach Tim Simoneau.
Jason Hatin returned to the Falcon line-up, but it was Jacob Buckles under center as North Country started the first series of the game from their own thirty.

Ranger Boys Blank Richford for Eighth Win

October 7, 2012

ORLEANS-Lake Region picked up their fourth shutout of the season, upending visiting Richford 4-0 in boys varsity soccer action Friday afternoon in the opening contest of the Rangers’ homecoming weekend.
Josh Thibault, Shaquille Urie, Anthony Wright and Alex Beauregard tallied for the Rangers with each score coming in the first half. Thibault and fellow junior Carl Oberg added one assist each.
“When you score early and often, you sometimes get out of your game plan,” said Lake Region head coach Tom Evans. “But Richford played hard, and that made it a good a match throughout.”

Urie Breaks Record in Lady Rangers 4-0 Win Over Danville

October 7, 2012

ORLEANS–Tyrah Urie scored her 37th career goal with 25:00 left to play in the second half to break the Lake Region girl's goal scoring record on Saturday afternoon.
The tally was the Lady Rangers (9-2) third of their 4-0 win over Danville (2-6-1).
Lake Region got on the board in the first half when Megan Menard put one in with nine minutes remaining in the opening forty.
Thirteen minutes into the second, Urie off of a strange play in the corner, sent a cross in front to Sarah Burnham, who netted her first goal of the season.
