NEWPORT–Lake Region played host to North Country at the Prouty Beach tennis courts on Wednesday, but the Falcons still felt that home town advantage and defeated the Lady Rangers 7-0.
"We needed this win. We have played some very difficult matches lately, especially ones against Montpelier and Middlebury," said North Country coach Marie George. "The 3-4 loss to Mount Mansfield on Monday really prepared the team for this win."
Unfortunately for Lake Region it was a very one sided affair as the Falcons allowed only two sets to go the Rangers’ way.
ORLEANS–Fairfax freshman fireballer Kayla Mathieu stymied Lake Region’s bats, tossing a no-hitter, while her teammates gave her more than enough support in a 20-1 schoolgirls softball game Wednesday night.
“Our first two games against them, they threw (senior pitcher) Ruby (Bushey), and we knew we could hit her,” said Ranger coach Matt Tinker. “We were actually pretty confident coming in. But we weren’t prepared for this girl (Mathieu). She was just phenomenal.”
