ESSEX–The Falcon hockey girls rallied back from a three goal first period deficit to win 5-4 in overtime against the Mount Mansfield Cougars on Wednesday night.
With Tara Langmaid forgetting her jersey and her parents not yet at the game with said jersey, Briana Bocelli got the start for North Country, yielding three goals in the opening period.
"It was not a good period for us. We were sleepwalking out there," said coach Claude Paul.
It would be a much better, much more awake second for North Country, especially for defenseman Meghan Campbell.

COVENTRY–Wrestling season is underway for the Northeast Kingdom Pythons youth wrestling program. The team consists of kids age eleven and younger, and is currently under the tutelage of long time Python member Richie Roberts.
"I have been with the program since 1984. I was helping coach and in 1987 I took it over," said the twenty-eight year veteran.

ST. ALBANS–The North Country Falcons girls basketball team battled hard, but in the end it was the BFA Comets coming out on top by the score of 47-38.
"It was a great game to be a part of," said coach Christiane Brown, "The ladies worked hard both on defense and on offense."
Noelle Pinard had a fantastic all-around game for the Falcons. She netted seven points to go along with 15 rebounds.
Said Brown, "She let the game come to her. She was dominant on the boards, and she was a pleasure to watch."

ORLEANS-The Lake Region girls came off their most emotional victory at Lamoille last Saturday, rallying to win after being down 14 late. That looked like a possible season changer for the Blue and White as they settled into a home stand. That never played out however as visiting Enosburg hit 18 of 24 free throws en-route to a 53-46 win.
The inconsistent Ranger girls started sluggishly in a foul filled sloppy first quarter.

The North Country Cheerleaders were on hand to perform at halftime on Tuesday. From their inception last fall to right now they have grown leaps and bounds.
Literally.
Their routines are becoming increasingly more complex, and head coach Danielle Gage has a simple answer as to why.
“Lots and lots of practice and the girls are working really hard. There is no one to really single out because the work hard as a team.”
Their first competition is on the horizon, and if they continue to work hard and put in the time, they should be able to turn some heads at the event.

NEWPORT–The Rice Green Knights built a fourteen point lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated the North Country boys basketball team 80-52 on Tuesday night.
Rice was hot right from the opening tip, going on a seven point run to kick off the game. Caleb Prue scored the Falcons first points of the contest when he grabbed a rebound and nailed the short jumper making it 7-2.
Casey Tipson picked a Falcon pocket and made the easy two to get the lead back to seven, but Devon Martin cut it down to four with nice three ball.
January 30th
JERICHO–Despite the limited amount of snow that we have received this winter, the North Country nordic teams have been able to compete in their last two races.
The first one up was the Mount Mansfield Pursuit.
The girls took home fourth place with an overall team score of 117.
Lindsay Cotnoir was the top finisher, coming in tied for twenty-fifth with Laura Andrews and Ellie Stone of CVU. CVU took home first place at the event.
Stephanie Watson was the only other Falcon in the top fifty, finishing fifty-first.

JAY–A pair of revamped teams met in the opening game of the matinee double-header on Saturday as Rice defeated the North Country girls 5-2 to earn a split in the season series.
"I think our effort was good in a lot of areas. We had a few mental breakdowns and that led to some easy goals for them," said Claude Paul after the game, "We need to tighten up in our end, including goaltending... we need to sure that up."

JAY-The boys were able to send the fans home happy after the game number two of the twin billing, as they picked up the 4-1 victory over Rice, winning their second game in a row
"It's good to have a couple (of wins) to rub together. It has been a while and it feels good," said Andrew Roy his teams' first back-to-back wins of the year.
Just fifty seconds into the game the Falcons were whistled for a Logan Fortier kneeing penalty, and it looked like it was going to be another long night of extended penalty killing for the boys in white.
HYDE PARK – The Lake Region Lady Rangers traveled to face off against the Lady Lancers of Lamoille Saturday, in what ESPN would call an “Instant Classic.” Trailing by as many as 14 in the second half Lake Region was able to rally back and pull of the 54-52 victory.
